Mandatory school uniform socks purchase reeks of profiteering at students’ expense

MCA Selangor Technology Development Bureau cum MCA Selangor Youth Secretary Sdr Tew Boon Chin today lambasted a new regulation for three schools in Butterworth which compels students to purchase uniform socks as part of the school’s standardised attire.

“This is a lame excuse to force students to buy uniform socks, when school days should be a time to learn. Students are made to purchase the socks from the school co-operatives. Otherwise, they will be subjected to disciplinary action.”

He urges the Ministry of Education to investigate this incident to ensure that school students are not fleeced by the co-operatives in reaping profits.
